12 Aug 08, 1800 BROKER CALL - Sino-Environment kept \'buy\' on strong earnings - Lim & Tan Lim & Tan Securities maintained a \"buy\" call on Sino-Environment Holdings, saying the Singapore-listed Chinese firm\'s earnings were in line with expectations and that growth should continue in the second half. The company, which is involved in wastewater treatment and desulfurization technology in China, saw its net profit rise 49 pct year-on-year to 57.6 mln yuan in the second quarter of this year, with sales up 74 pct at 191 mln yuan. Gross margin declined to 43 pct from 51 pct a year ago because of a bigger contribution made by lower-margin segments like desulfurization, Lim & Tan said. The market expects the company\'s full-year profit to come in at 253 mln yuan, up from 165 mln last year, making its shares worth picking up, it said. Many of these growth stocks are volatile nowadays, and 10 cts up or down is common, and/or 20% upswing or downswing over a week. I used to avoid these altogether, but have learnt to live with their volatility because as long as you are reasonably sure their fundamentals are sound, they can be very profitable in a rally. The idea is to keep your exposure to them not too high, and not to keep averaging down until you lose control.
