NAGA2, the first of a series of 4 offshore rigs which can drill in 350ft of water. The builder: Drydocks World - Graha.

A COUPLE of major firsts have been achieved by Drydocks World – Graha, formerly Labroy Marine.

* It has launched its first Mobile Offshore Drilling Rig.
* Built in Batam, the rig - Hull L201 or NAGA 2 - is the first to be constructed in Indonesia.

Drydocks World is owned by the Dubai government and operates shipyards in the Middle East, Europe and Asia.

There is another first: this is the first significant project news to have come out of the former Labroy Marine, which was bought over for S$2.4 billion by Drydocks World in January this year.

Labroy Marine founder and executive chairman Tan Boy Tee and executive director Chan Kwan Bian, who jointly owned 65.49% of the company, accepted the offer.

Commenting on the launch of NAGA 2, Mark Biggs, Managing Director of Drydocks World - Graha said: “Today is a celebration of the unstinting hard work and dedication of the entire Drydocks World – Graha Team, the client’s site team and our vendors and partners in achieving this, the launch of our first drilling rig.

”It’s something which has been achieved without major incident, something for which everyone involved can be justifiably proud.”

The rig is only the start as Drydocks World has ambitions to grow its rig business here in SE Asia.

NAGA 2 is the first of a series of four identical mobile offshore drilling rigs ordered by Standard Drilling being built by Drydocks World - Graha. Also currently under construction are two MSC designed Sea Jacks for Master Marine ASA.

Technical information: NAGA 2 is a new generation MSC CJ46 X100D Mobile Offshore Drilling Rig with the capability of drilling in 350 ft water depth, 30,000 ft drilling depth, equipped for high pressure high temperature (HPHT) drilling environment, large VDL, bigger deck space with 70ft and 20ft X-Y cantilever, and installed with automated pipe racking system.

Jointly owned by Standard Drilling ASA, a Norwegian drilling company, and UMW Naga Two (L) Ltd. of Malaysia, NAGA 2 conforms to the latest standard of mobile offshore drilling rig requirements.
