EVERYONE HELD his breath – and then came the fantastic moments when the massive structure smoothly slid into the water off the construction site in Batam of Drydocks World – Southeast Asia Pte Ltd.
The company yesterday (Mar 30) announced that it has successfully launched Hull L203 NAGA 3, its third Mobile Offshore Drilling Unit (MODU).
“Mobile offshore drilling unit” is a generic term for several classes of self-contained floatable or floating drilling machines such as jackups, semisubmersibles, and submersibles.
L203 NAGA 3 is being built for UMW Standard Drilling, a joint venture company formed between UMW Corp Sdn Bhd of Malaysia and Standard Drilling ASA of Norway.
L203 NAGA 3 is the third of a series of four identical MODUs under construction at the Graha yard of Drydocks. There are also two MSC designed Service Jacks under construction at the Graha yard for Master Marine ASA.

L203 NAGA 3 is a new generation MSC CJ46-X100-D MODU with specifications of 350ft Cantilever (possible to upgrade to 375ft), 30,000ft drilling depth, equipped for high pressure high temperature (HPHT) drilling environment, large VDL, bigger deck space with 70ft and 20ft X-Y cantilever (highest in industry) and installed with automated pipe racking system.
L203 NAGA 3 conforms to the latest standard of MODU requirements.
