Referee admits taking bribes

A well-known Chinese referee confessed in court to accepting bribes for fixing local and international matches, amid a series of corruption hearings involving top football officials.
Huang Junjie admitted to accepting more than US$246,000 (HK$1.92 million) in bribes to fix two international friendlies, as well as six Chinese club matches between 2005 and 2009, Xinhua News Agency reported.
Huang, who in 2009 was among three short-listed for best Chinese referee of the year, also confessed to accepting bribes from his colleague Zhou Weixin to sway results.
The tainted matches that Huang officiated include a 2007 exhibition game between English Premier League champions Manchester United and Shenzhen Football Club.
Clerk charged with allegedly cheating Home Affairs Ministry of S$617,000
SINGAPORE - The fact that he was working under the noses of law enforcers did not stop Liew Chee Meng, 35, from allegedly cheating the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) of about S$617,000.
Between 2007 and earlier this year, Liew, who was a clerk at the MHA, allegedly forged documents to buy gift vouchers that he then used himself.
Liew's job involved financial matters and the organising of events in an MHA department.
Yesterday, he was charged with 455 counts of forgery, cheating, criminal breach of trust and using his ill-gotten gains for personal purchases.
