• Fast growing mobile satellite airtime is contributed by the Group’s growing enterprise mobile satellite subscriber base in China
• Continue to pursue growth opportunities to expand mobile satellite subscriber base
Singapore, 15 August 2013–China Mobile Satellite Communications Group Limited (“CMSCG” or “the Group”), announced today that it has achieved 50% month-on-month (mom) mobile satellite airtime growth to over 60,000 minutes (incoming and outgoing calls) for the month of July. This is attributed to the Group’s growing enterprise mobile satellite subscriber base since the launch of its ‘1349’ mobile satellite SIM cards in early April this year.
Since the launch of the ‘1349’ SIM card, the Group’s mobile satellite airtime has burgeoned from over 1,000 minutes of airtime in April to over 60,000 minutes in four months. Due to the increasing mobile satellite airtime traffic, CMSCG has announced last month that it will be hiring an additional E1 line1 to their current mobile satellite connection to regulate satellite airtime capacity between the Thuraya-owned satellites and the virtual gateway used by CMSCG to provide secure satellite airtime services to its China-based enterprise user base.
Jimmy Zhang, Chief Executive Officer of CMSCG commented on the announcement, “We have been aggressively marketing and distributing Thuraya’s mobile satellite products and services for these four months in the fast growing mobile satellite market in China. It is evident that our efforts have helped us achieved huge progress. While we are encouraged by the positive results, we are not complacent and will continue to grow our mobile satellite business in China.”
CMSCG and China Telecom Satellite (“CTS”), a subsidiary of China Telecommunications Corporation, have been marketingThuraya’s mobile satellite handsets and mobile satellite airtime services to key Chinese distributors for China’s enterprise market.
