Company I'll be visiting: China Kangda
Dates: Monday, June 23 - Wednesday, June 25
Location: Qingdao, China

I didn’t know it could take an entire day to fly to a destination in China until I studied the details of my upcoming trip to the production facilities of SGX-listed China Kangda.

We (some analysts and I) fly off at 8.40 am for Beijing,

which means we should set out from our homes at daybreak.

We arrive in Beijing at 2.50 pm, and then it’s idle time until our domestic flight at 6.30 pm to Qingdao in northeast China.

The flight takes 1 hour 15 minutes, so by the time we reach our hotel and check in, it’s time for supper. Wow - breakfast in Singapore and supper in Qingdao.

Luckily, Qingdao sounds like an interesting place, after I did some checking on the Internet. It is a premier tourist destination and home to the brewery that makes Tsingtao Beer, China’s No. 1 beer.

And Qingdao is where t
he sailing events for the upcoming Olympic Games will be held.

China Kangda’s production facilities are some 80 km from Qingdao airport. The company processes a wide range of food, including chicken, rabbit meat, seafood, vegetables, soup ingredients and seasoning.

I look forward to visiting not only its production facilities but also its vast chicken and rabbit farms. Heard they rear millions of rabbits.

China Angel's sweet stuff tantalise the tastebuds of Shenzhen city dwellers.

Company I'll be visiting: China Angel
Dates: Tue, June 24 – Wed, Jun 25
Location: Shenzhen, China

WHOPPIEEE!!!  Miss Piggy (er, that's me) is going to see the production of Shenzhen’s best-selling Angel moon-cakes.

I will also visit its chain of confectionery shops retailing cakes, puffs and other sugary temptations!

Shenzhen, home to some 10 million people, is China’s wealthiest city in terms of per capita GDP.

It is also where SGX-listed China Angel has its production facilities for moon cakes, cookies and pastries plus 27 Angel cake shops.

China Angel sold some Rmb 110 million worth of moon cakes last year.

Why do Shenzhen folks like moon cakes, and why Angel mooncakes? How does automation at its new factory in Guanlan High Tech Industrial Park reduce operating costs?

I am going to find out - and indulge big-time in mooncakes!

Anwell has clinched its first customer for its solar cell business.

Company I’ll be visiting: Anwell Technologies

Dates: Mon, June 23 – Tues, June 24
Locations: Dongguan & Henan (China)

There aren’t many true technology companies listed on the SGX mainboard. Anwell is definitely one of them.

It is the world’s No.2 optical disc equipment maker and the 5th largest DVD-R disc manufacturer. And now…. It is entering the solar industry.

Our first stop will be Anwell’s equipment plant in Dongguan, where I’ll be looking out for the much talked-about Blu-ray equipment.

It will be fantastic seeing for myself how Blu-Ray discs are made.

And of course, I can’t wait to see Anwell’s 40MW Solar Cell manufacturing line.

With the recent spate of failed solar ventures in Singapore, understandably people are skeptical. But, seeing is believing and I look forward to updating everyone on the progress Anwell is making.

On the 24th, we will be travelling to Henan to visit Anwell’s disc manufacturing plant. It’s the 5th largest (in terms of output) in the world.
